FILM HOR DIARIES
Sundance 2009
By Rebekah Sindoris
Sunday January 25, 2009
I just got back from Robert Redford’s Sundance Film Festival, in Park City, Utah, and what a mind-blowing experience it was this year. Yes, I’ve been going for 10 years, and it’s not really the festival itself that transforms me, it’s the complete experience. It’s primarily the 11 hour drive (which is absolutely beautiful and the most downtime I get all year!) If you’ve never done the drive, I highly recommend it!

Rebekah & Reed drive to Sundance!
This year Reed Randoy, my Sundance partner in crime, and I did something a little different. We filmed a music showcase daily. We had to give up our movie tickets because we were so busy, but it was worth it. I had a completely different experience that I can’t wait for again next year!
We filmed two music lounges for the new Access Film Music Showcase (www.accessfilmmusic.net) at the Spur Bar and Wasatch Brewery on Main Street in Park City. A talented musician by the name of Chicago Mike Beck took it over from Radical Rat this year and he’s got some amazing things coming. The purpose of the showcase is to have really great talented singer/songwriters perform for filmmakers to come together to collaborate on projects and to use songs in movies, shows, and other creative works.

Chicago Mike Beck, James Moors, Rebekah & Reed
No doubt Access has put together a successful venue and will be growing. I was truly blown away by the level of talent. Some of my favorite performers were: Matthew Moon, Bobby Syvarth, Kort McCumber, James Moors, Victoria Vox, Christopher Hawley, Mary Beth Maziarz, and Chicago Mike Beck. I’ve listed their websites below in case you want to check any of them out.
They all performed original songs and are truly pros who travel the country playing gigs. I have no doubt there will be a few exploding on the international music scene very soon. More to come on this showcase as Reed and I plan to continue to be a part of its growth. We’ll be post clips soon so watch for them here on the Film and Music Forum.
Additionally this year, my good friend Andre Enzensberger joined us. I can’t believe he’s never been. Andre is a very talented Director/DP who recently finished his awesome documentary “Ralf and Johnny” which is already winning awards. It’s about two guys, 30 years old, photographers living parallel lives – a German in Venice Beach, CA, and an American in Munich, Germany. It’s really well done and he’s in distribution talks right now. I hope the world will get a chance to see it. Check out the trailer and his other work at www.bavayoufilms.com.
Not that I’m trying to plug all my amazing friends, just sharing those I believe in, which is what this Forum is all about! Well, if you really want a Sundance story, ask me how I got my new nickname “Nina.” I’ll save that for later! For now, I’m recovering, regenerating, and getting my head back in the game – big things to come in ‘09, I have no doubt.
Drop me a line at " target="_blank"> if you’re working on any new projects or want to share your own Sundance experiences. Soon, we’ll be able to archive all our Film Trix right stories, clips, and celeb interviews for your digestive pleasure. In cahoots with my film hor friend, Christie Pesicka, we have much interesting content to showcase from over the years at Sundance and other Hollywood and film events. We’re collecting it all now to bring to you right here on the Forum. But, back to this year’s Sundance experience…

Bobby Syvarth & James Moors
We enjoyed the musicians so much at Access this year, that I want to share them with you. Below are links to some of the folks I mentioned – many of them have myspace and facebook profiles too – check em out! Two of the artists are LA Locals – Bobby Syvarth and Matthew Moon – so if you live in Tinseltown, stay tuned for event postings of local shows for them and visiting talents! I personally guarantee you will not be disappointed. And, hey, maybe we’ll get a chance to talk some film hor madness, one-on-one. You never know when YOU could end up in the Diaries! Enjoy and stay tuned for more madness!
